Rep. Scholten once again demonstrates her allegiance to Israel in most recent vote

On Wednesday 98 Democrats voted against an amendment proposed by  Rep. Thomas Massie that would prohibit the US from providing $3.3 billion in military assistance to Israel.

The amendment is attached to the larger 2027 US Military Budget, which has yet to be voted on. There were a total of 103 Democrats that voted in favor of the amendment, with 10 voting present, while 98 voted no. Among those who voted no were Rep. Hillary Scholten and Rep. Haley Stevens.

The fact that Stevens and Scholten both voted against the amendment that would deny $3.3 billion in military should come as no surprise as they both have been major recipients of AIPAC funding.

GRIID has been tracking Rep. Scholten’s vote on funding for Israel from the beginning of 2023 when she first took office. Scholten has consistently voted for US military aid to Israel, voted against calling Israel an Apartheid State and voted in favor of equating criticism of Israel with antisemitism. Rep. Scholten even went on an AIPAC-funded trip to Israel in August of 2023, where she visited the place where Jesus is believed to have given his Sermon on the Mount. The Christian Beatitudes speak of those who mourn, show mercy and practice peacemaking, so how the hell can anyone who embraces these values be ok with the brutal Israeli genocide in Gaza?

An equally important vote will be to see if the majority of Democrats vote with the Trump Administration’s 2027 US Military Budget, which will be the largest ever in US history, surpassing $1 trillion. In all of her previous votes for the annual US military budget Rep. Scholten has voted in favor of those massive spending bills, just like most Democrats who are equally committed to the US military industrial complex and US imperialism abroad.
